VARASIDDHI VINAYAKA
KANIPAKAM
Kanipakam a truly remarkable and ancient temple dedicated to Lord Vinayaka situated near tirupathi at kanipakam, Chitoor district. The main deity, known as Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka Swamy, is a self-manifested (Swayambhu) divine form that is astonishingly, and visibly, growing in size over time. The ornaments and crowns crafted for the Lord require remaking periodically as they no longer fit, to His ever-expanding presence. Kanipakam is not just a place of worship, but a 'court of divine justice,' where it is believed that individuals swear to speak nothing but the truth before the Lord.
The Miraculous Legend of Origin: Faith, Healing, and Divine Revelation:
A story of three brothers who resided in Kanipakam. Each bore a significant physical challenge: one was blind, another deaf, and the third was dumb. They toiled together on their small plot of land, relying on agriculture for their sustenance. To irrigate their fields, they would draw water from a well. While expanding the well the tool hit a stone and to their astonishment, blood began to ooze from it, mingling with the water. There they found vinayaka idol. On seeing the god idol blind can see, deaf can hear and dumb can speak. They constructed a temple around the very well where the Lord chose to reveal Himself.
It was built in the 11th century by the chola king and later developed by the vijayanagara Empire. A truly unique aspect of Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka Swamy is that the deity resides within the original well, which remains full of water and never dries up. The complete form of the idol remains submerged, with only parts, such as the knee and abdomen, currently visible. The belief that the idol is continuously growing is a cornerstone of faith at Kanipakam. Devotees have presented silver kavachams (armour) to the deity over the decades, but they become too small over time. These outgrown kavachams are often displayed within the temple premises.
Kanipakam holds a singular reputation as a place where truth prevails. There is a de tradition known as 'Sathyapramanam,' where disputes are resolved by individuals taking a special oath before Lord Vinayaka after a holy dip in the temple tank (Pushkarini). It is staunchly believed that anyone who utters a falsehood in the Lord's presence will be compelled by an inner force to confess their wrongdoing. This practice underscores the temple's role as a sanctuary of justice and righteousness.
Sri Varasiddhi Vinayaka Swamy temple is an unforgettable and deeply enriching experience. It is a journey into the heart of devotion, where the divine presence is felt with every prayer.
