Vedadri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple

Sri Yogananda Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Vedadri is a Pancha Narasimha Kshetram in Andhra Pradesh. It is situated 5kms from National Highway 9 near Vijayawada.

The main idol of this temple is Lord Narasimha Swamy. The idol faces west side and the Krishna river is in front of the main Idol. The Salagrama Narasimha is on the  river Krishna Veni facing the main idol.To the North of the main temple there is a temple of Jwala Narasimha. From Vedadri to the east there is Veera narasimhaswamy temple. Here the kshetrapalaka is Paravathi sametha Kasivisweswara Swamy.

The temple history of Vedrari links to ancient years. Long back when Demon Tarakasura took away Vedas and threw in an ocean, Lord Brahma worshipped Srimannarayana then he saved Vedas in the form of fish (Mathsya Avataramu one of the 22 incarnations of Lord Srimannarayana). Vedas took human form and asked Srimannarayana to stay on their head.

He accepted the request but told them that he will stay there only after killing demon Hiranyakasipu. Until that time  he asked them to remain in the river Krishnaveni as Saligrama Mountain. River Krishnaveni also prayed Lord to allow her to worship Lord every day.

After few years Srimanarayana killed demon Hiranyakasipu as Lord Narasimha. Then he came back to the saligrama Mountain as Jwala Narasimha. As Vedas stayed in the mountain it is named as Vedadri.

Lord Brahma asked Lord Narasimha to stay at Satya Loka as Saligrama Narasimha. Lord went to  Satya Loka as Saligrama Narasimha on request of Brahma. On entering Satya Loka even before Brahma offered prayers there were big flames in Satya Loka. Immediately Lord Brahma brought back Saligrama Narasimha and established on Saligrama Mountain.

Here Lord Narasimha is in five forms

Jwala, Saligrama, Yogananda, Lakshmi Narasimha and Veera Narasimha on Garudachala.

Lord Narasimha Swamy stayed in five forms as

1.On the request Rushya Srunga Muni Lord Narasimha stayed in the middle of the mountain as Yogananda Narasimha.

2.On the request of Garudachala the Lord stayed as Veera Narasimha on Garudachala.

3. On the request of Vana Devatha the Lord stayed as Lakshmi Narasimha.

4.On the request of Vedas Lord Narasimha  stayed on the heads of Vedas as Jwala Narasimha.

5. As Saligrama Narasimha established by Brahma.

At the beginning of Kaliyuga several Rishis on search of suitable place for penance came here and heard Vedas chanting from the mountain. They took a holy dip in river Krishnaveni and a luminous light came out from the mountain as Yogananda Narasimha. The Rishis praised the lord with holy chanting.

Every year during Vaisakha month (second month of Telugu year) which falls in May Lord Narasimha Swamy Kalyanam is celebrated in this temple.

One of the popular Narasimha Swamy temples of Andhra Pradesh.

Happy Piligrimage.
