Veeranjaneya Swamy Temple, Arthagiri.

Anjaneya swamy temple arthagiri is 15 kms from kanipakam.  Arthagiri is in Arakonda village, Thavanampalli Mandal, Chitoor district. Arthagiri means half of the mountain. In Telugu language Artha means half and Giri means mountain.

The history of this temple links to Ramayana period. During Rama Ravana war Lakshmana fell unconsciousness with the weapon named "Shakthi" used by Ravana . Then Sushena a Vanara who is familiar with medicnal plants asked Anjaneya to bring "Sanjeevani" medicinal plant from Sanjeevani mountain which is in Himalayas. Hanuman cannot recognise the Sanjeevani plant so he lifted the whole mountain.  While carrying the mountain a piece of mountain fell down in this place and it is called Arthagiri.

The water falls from that piece of mountain is called Sanjeevaraya Pushkarini. The water in that Pushkarini never get dried or spoiled and it contains medicinal values. So drinking that water removes all diseases. It is believed that rishis and gods used to move on this mountain.

One of the Saptha rishis namely Kashyapa Maharshi established Veeranjaneya swamy temple beside the pushkarini facing North side. North side is prominent for Lord Kubera, the god of wealth. So it is believed that visiting this temple gives wealth prosperity. This is the only temple of Anjaneya facing towards the North side.

From the age of Chola kings the Veeranjaneya swamy temple is believed to be special of all Anjaneya temples as it is facing towards North direction.

During Trethayuga when the Sanjeevani medicine was applied Lakshmana got conscious with in 9 minutes. The 9 minutes period of Tretayuga equals to 9 months in Kaliyuga. So  if the water from the Arthagiri Sanjeevaraya Pushkarini is taken for 9 Pournami days (1 pournami in 1 telugu month) one will be relieved from all diseases and get wealth and prosperity.

One of the famous temples of Anjaneya to be visited in Andhra pradesh and is near to famous Tiruamala Tirupathi Temple.

Happy piligrimage.
