Sri Rama Kshetram, Bhadrachalam.
Sri Sita Rama temple is in Bhadrachalam, Khammam district, Telangana state. It is on the banks of Godavari River. The diety of this temple is of Sita Rama Lakshmana.
Lord SriRama is one of the incarnations of Mahavishnu. (see my other blogpost 5th incarnation Vamana Avatara, Ulaganantha Perumal Temple). Lord Rama came to the earth as son of King Dasaratha and married Sita, the daughter of King Janaka. Lakshmana is one of the three brothers of Rama.
According to Brahma purana, in Tretayuga Period Rama Sita and Lakshmana during their vanavasa (exile) stayed on a rock. With the blessings of Brahma that rock born as a child to the couple Meru Devi and Meru Parvatham and the child is named as Bhadhra. Being a devotee of Lord Rama from the childhood and with the words of Sage Narada, Bhadra performed penace in Dandakaranya (Dandaka Forest). Pleased with his prayers Lord Srimannarayana came to the earth as SriRama and stayed at the place where Bhadra performed penance and the mountain is called as Bhadradri. The deity of Lord SriRama here is with four hands and having sita on his left thigh with Lakshmana beside him.
Lord Rama here is known as Bhadradri Rama, Vaikunta Rama, Omkara Rama and RamaNarayana.
In 16th Centruy Pokala Dammakka a devotee of Rama saw these dieties on this mountain and built a small hut. Later Kancherla Gopanna , a devotee of Rama who was the Tahasildar of Tanisha dynasty built the temple and bought jewelry for the dieties. For that he used the Government money of 6 lakhs. With this allegation he has been arrested by the King Tanisha. But Lord Rama and Lakshmana appeared before the King and paid back the money of 6 Lakhs to him and he has been released from the Jail. Later Kancherla Gopanna became popular with his Peoms (Dasarathi Sathakam) and Songs (Baktha Ramadasu Keertanalu) and he has been called as Bhaktha Ramadasu.
After that incident the Nizam Nawab, Tanisha became the devotee of Rama and took charge of the temple maintainance. On the occassion of SriRama Navami, which falls in March/April on the ninth day after the Telugu New Year. Sitarama Kalyanam is performed (Marriage to sita and Rama). From then on every year Tanisha used to send Pearls (Mutyala Talambralu) to the temple which are used during the Sita Rama marriage occassion. Even now the Chief Minister of the State Government every year visit the temple on that day and offer Pearls to the God.
Along with Main dieities of Sita Rama Lakshmana, the temple premises has Godess Lakshmi temple, Bhadra Sannidhi and other Alwar dieties. Hanuman temple is situated opposite to Lord Rama, Hanuman is also a great devotee of Rama.
There was a museum with all jewels of dieties and chariot.
